The photo above is that of the Baščanska ploča (Baška tablet) discovered in 1851 on the island Krk, and now kept in the Hrvatska Akademija Znanosti i Umjetnosti (Academy of Sciences and Art) in central Zagreb. Carved in Croatian Glagolitic text, it is believed to have been inscribed in the late 11th century. It contains the earliest known use in Croatian language of the name Croatia, and the adjective Croatian

Learning Croatian
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
While learning Croatian, I have become aware of many interesting and/or curious things about the Croatian language - in its own right, as well as in comparison with English. Let's talk about some of these things.
Even more, while learning Croatian (or any other language, I guess) it is not surprising that one learns more about language in general - its origins, developments, and comparisons.
I don't pretend to be a linguist - just an observer. And if I think that what I observe might be of some interest to you as well, then let's talk about that too?

This chapter might have been given any one of the following titles:

You get my drift?
At the time of publishing these items, I judged that they didn’t fit comfortably into the other categories of this site: Grammar, Vocabulary, Sayings and Expressions, About Croatia, and Experiences I have had.
Nevertheless, just because they may not be the sort of thing that we might find in our textbook for learning Croatian, in my eyes they are just as important. These are the things that give meaning, clarification, and specificity to the content of the other chapters.

On reflection, I can see that some of the posts in this section may well have been placed in other sections, such as Grammar or Vocabulary. Don't fret too much about the judgement that I made at the time I posted each article.
The posts in this section are organized into sub-folders, simply to avoid menu entries going way down beyond the bottom of your computer screen.
