Jučer ili sutra?

Yesterday or tomorrow?

In another post (Eleven​ Dalmatian commandments) is a satirical set of Dalmatian "commandments", one of which is "Ne čini danas ono što možeš sutra".  Don't do today what you can do tomorrow.

Rather embarrassingly, because I am learning Croatian just now, and haven't grown up with the vocabulary, I sometimes say sutra (tomorrow) when I mean jučer (yesterday), and vice versa.

Like the time recently when I was in Jelsa .......

Ah, the memories!

​Some beautiful friends and I were going almost daily for the good food and good company at the Jelsa Pizzeria (naravno, u Jelsi, na Otoku Hvaru).

The young waiter, Florian, is a really engaging guy.
​

One evening, intending to say that we had been to the city of Hvar the previous day, I said to him "Išli smo u grad Hvar sutra".

​Duh ... We went to Hvar tomorrow?

As we left, he said "Vidimo se opet jučer?"

​Smartypants!

You might think that the wine had something to do with it? Sadly, I seem to keep on making this blooper regularly, wine or no wine.

With reference to the Dalmatian commandment at the beginning of this post, it's fortunate that I didn't say to Florian: "Ne čini danas ono što možeš jučer".
