Dalmacija: Being and speaking Dalmatian #003

Dalmatinski rječnik

Dictionary of Dalmatian words and phrases

Dalmatians use many word and phrases that are particular to the region - and different from the standard Croatian words. They are fiercely proud of everything Dalmatian (language, food, customs, sporting clubs, .....) and nothing will be changing soon.

Dalmatian is commonly regarded as a dialect of the Croatian language, although <i have seen linguists' arguments that it might perhaps be regarded as a language of its own.

Here is a live, growing collection of Dalmatian words and phrases. Contributions gladly accepted. Bear in mind that some of these words may apply only in particular towns or on certain islands, and are not universally used Dalmatian words.
