It can certainly help learning Croatian.

Learning Croatian through experiences
Learning chemistry, engineering, or psychology, for example, needs field work to supplement the theory of formal lessons.
The same applies to learning Croatian, and the most valuable field work comes from engaging in life in Croatia.
I haven't lived in Croatia, but I have been lucky enough to have stayed there for extended periods. On each occasion, the level of my Croatian has made a significant jump - not as much as most people would have made in the same circumstances, but that doesn't matter.
So of course, there is this beautiful symbiosis between formal lessons with Mateja at SpeakCro and my informal field work on the streets of Zagreb, Split, and Zastražišće: it's true that I wouldn't have got to my current (ordinary) level of proficiency without these Croatian experiences, but it is also true that the gains made during field work would not have happened without the foundations derived from my online lessons.
And I have been super-fortunate that recently Mateja has accompanied me during some of my field work experiences, so I have had the best of both worlds simultaneously. Lucky me!
Anyway, in this section I recount some of my more memorable experiences. I hope that my experiences might shine a little light on the business of learning Croatian that you can relate to.
And perhaps occasionally they might provide a little chuckle ...... at my expense.
