About Croatia: Where/What/Who is that? #006Tovar and friend
The donkey - symbol of a past life
The standard Croatian word for "donkey" is magarac. But on the dalmatian islands they use the word tovar. Since the subject of this post is on one of the islands, we will stay with tovar. Tovar je životinje na slici s četiri noge ...... Gdje je ovaj tovar? Kip je na rivi u lijepom gradu na jednom divnom otoku .... Koji otok? Koji grad?
What heroes these animals were! In previous times, agricultural production in the villages depended on the donkey for transporting loads of olives, grapes, figs, people, ... whatever.
It seems only right that the donkey should be chosen as a historic symbol on the islands.
Pitam se kako se zove ovaj tovar. Što mislite? [Drugo životinje na slici se zove Bob.]
What is the link between the noun tovar and the verb tovariti which is standard in current Croatian?
All is revealed below .....
So this is where it is ....
Coming, coming. Be patient!
