Dobar dan, svima!
Learning Croatian .... What a challenge! But what a journey it has been - and still is. When I stumbled upon my teacher (not literally, but online), I had no idea that learning a language could be such an interesting road to travel. There can be so much more to it than vocabulary, cases, verb declensions, and all that stuff. It has been a doorway to many friendships and many experiences.
What can I give you? I can share with you aspects of learning this complex language, seen through the eyes of a student. As well as some of the observations and experiences that have accompanied the process.
I am not a teacher of Croatian, and this is not a formal course in learning Croatian. Let's regard it as a collection of anecdotes, each based on some Aha! experience.
I hope that occasionally something strikes a chord with you, and is useful. Let's talk about it ....
Sve najbolje na putu

- HOME: CLICK TO START (Where you are right now): An introduction and overview to this website.
- LEARNING CROATIAN: Oh, it can be a cinch for some lucky ones, and a real challenge for others. I am in the latter category. So sad! Some of the Aha! moments (and some of my more mundane experiences) recorded here just might provide some insight, knowledge, or clarification, to others who are learning Croatian.
- GRAMMAR: Perhaps this section could be integrated into the previous category "Learning Croatian". But the formal grammar of the language seems to dominate teaching and learning Croatian (Perhaps it shouldn't?), so for now I will give it a category on its own. As well as discussions of specific matters of the grammar that have challenged me sufficiently to consider passing my experiences, this section contains a grammar reference section - just for use like an encyclopedia.
- SAYINGS: Common saying used by Croatians - what they mean, and when to use them. We'll know that we are getting somewhere when we are using these. Notice that the future tense is applicable to me.
- ODDS AND SODS: Just interesting random thoughts and things that I have noticed, relevant to Croatia, its people, and the language. Hopefully, each gives at least a tiny insight into Croatia, the Croatian people, and the Croatian language
- EXPERIENCES: Learning is very much an experiential endeavour. Here are anecdotes about incidental stuff that I have done and seen while I have been in Croatia, and learning the language. Things that seem interesting, relevant, insightful, or humorous to me.
- CROATIA: It is one thing to share knowledge about learning Croatian - but that is quite empty unless it is in the context of exploring the country and its people. So, some geography, history, social science.
- TKO SAM JA? Why am I interested in learning Croatian, and sharing my experiences with you? I suspect that many of us (you, dear reader, and I) have a lot in common. In that case, my perceptions of this journey learning Croatian might have tiny packets of usefulness to you too.
