Croatian phrases based on VERBS: 001

UZIMATI / UZETI

Introductory stuff ....

Uzimati and uzeti are a continuous/finished verbal pair: uzimati is the continuous or unfinished (imperfective) verb, and uzeti is the finished (perfective) verb.
​
They conjugate differently:
uzimati:                Present:   ja uzimam, ti uzimaš, on/ona/ono uzima, mi uzimamo, vi uzimate, oni uzimaju
                             Past participle:  (singular)  uzimao/uzimala/uzimalo,  (plural) uzimali/uzimale/uzimala
                             (while) taking: uzimajući ....                 taking (noun): uzimanje
 
uzeti:                    Present:   ja uzmem, ti uzmeš, on/ona/oni uzme, mi uzmemo, vi uzmete, oni uzmu.   
                             Past participle: (singular)   uzeo/uzela/uzelo,   (plural) uzeli/uzele/uzela
                             (while) taking: uzevši …..

1. (transitive) to take (to grasp with the hands)
2. (transitive) to take (to grab and move to oneself)

praktično uzevši …..   practically speaking, in practical terms ….;

uzeti za dobro/gotovo/zlo itd .; to take for better or worse
uzeti na znanje/zub,  to take note of;
uzeti u rad/posao//postupak,  to take into account;
uzeti srcu  to take to heart.

strogo uzevši  ako se doslovno shvati, ako se uzme u užem smislu;   strictly speaking, if taken literally, if taken in the narrow sense;
uzela davala   nejasne okolnosti ili prava onoga tko odlučuje o primanjima i davanjima u novcu, samovoljno odlučivanje ili prividno dobro poslovanje [npr. način na koji ta djeca pomažu oca, to je sve nešto uzela davala, ako porezna politika nije uređena propisima, onda je to samo uzela davala];   unclear circumstances or rights of the person who decides on income and benefits in money, arbitrary decision-making or seemingly good business [eg, the way these children help their father, that's all something uzela davala, if the tax policy is not regulated by regulations, then it's just uzela davala]

     1. prihvatiti obvezu  to take upon oneself, to accept an obligation
      2. preuzeti odgovornost za što;  to take responsibility for something
uzeti se  sklopiti brak, stupiti u brak, vjenčati se;   to take to oneself, to get married, to get married, to get married
uzeti (koga) na zub, uzeti na nišan  biti stalno protiv koga, željeti mu štetiti;   to take (someone) to task, to target/take aim at somebody, to be constantly against, to want to harm someone
uzeti ozbiljno  (tragično) shvatiti;   to take seriously, to understand
uzeti se u pamet  opametiti se, prizvati se pameti, postupati pametno i mudro, (oprečno) praviti gluposti, biti neodgovoran, ludovati;  to come to one's senses, to come to one's senses, to act intelligently and wisely, (oppositely) to do stupid things, to be irresponsible, to go crazy
